“The Last of the Starks” – Game of Thrones, season 8, episode 4 recap

Before you read, be warned – spoiler alert!

Now that the Night King has been defeated in a dramatic and climatic quick undertaking by badass Arya Stark, the next war is just lurking around the corner. As everyone is aware, in Game of Thrones it’s all about who is and has the right claim to be sitting on the Iron Throne. Eight years ago, it started with a negligible man sitting on this throne. These days two strong women, Cersei Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen, are fighting for their rightful privilege, and both won’t give in until the other opponent has been finally destroyed. This for sure has been made clear in last episode and for us two dramatic scenes portrayed that the fight between these two women has just begun:

  • Tyrion Lannister trying to convince his sister to give in and think about what she will most probably loose – another child and the only people she ever cared about. However, quickly realising his words didn’t have any effect on her as she let the Mountain cut off Missandei’s head in front of Greyworm and Daenerys.
  • The moment when Daenerys and her fleet were surprised by vulgar seafarer Euron Greyjoy who managed to finish off one of her last two dragons, Rhaegal, with giant arrows fired from huge crossbows atop his ships. Euron being the first human killing a dragon assured Cersei that she won’t have to face as much firepower as before. Putting himself more into the likelihood of ruling next to her.

Overall, this season’s common bottom line is powerful women fighting for their right which they deem to be theirs. Be it Cersei defending her throne, Dany fighting for her birth right, Arya and Sansa for their family’s right. The latter scheming her way cleverly through by disclosing a secret to someone influential – the secret about her half-brother’s true identity.

With Jon actually being Aegon Targaryen there comes another candidate for the Iron Throne – he is the last male Targaryen off-spring with also Stark blood.

So, with only two episodes left, what are your guesses who will be finally sitting on the Iron Throne?
